Marine Terminal Expansion
GEE is supporting the New York Container Terminal (NYCT) in the expansion of its facility along the Arthur Kill tidal strait on Staten Island, New York. This expansion will result in the unavoidable discharge of fill into wetlands.
GEE is assisting in an ecological mapping and mitigation strategy that minimizes and compensates for wetland impacts through a variety of actions including, enhancement and creation of salt marsh habitats. Additionally, GEE provides public outreach assistance to NYCT in developing community relations and integrating public support into the project.
GEE has investigated several possible mitigation sites in New York, and presented a conceptual design of a 45-acre mitigation wetland in Queens. GEE has also developed conceptual design of a “green” wall at the terminal expansion site.
